AJEDI
AJEDI Resource Database
The Accessibility, Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (AJEDI) resources database was created to compile and promote AJEDI initiatives available to early-career scientists and the broader community. This post will discuss the resource categories of the database – including (1) Networking and Mentoring Programs, (2) Fellowships and Scholarships, (3) University-Specific Resources, and (4) Additional Resources – and conclude with details about how to submit a resource to this database. The examples provided for each category are only a few examples of the expansive and growing AJEDI resource database and are not representative of all groups.
Below you will find the various categories of resources within the database. We encourage everyone to share the database with scientists at all career stages. To add to the database, please submit our information using the button below.
Networking and Mentoring
The Networking and Mentoring Program category consists of organizations that foster communities tailored to specific identities, for example, the Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences organization and the Society of Wetland Scientists Multicultural Mentoring Program. We promote these programs to assist individuals in their professional development by forming effective mentoring relationships and expanding inclusive communities.
Fellowships and Scholarships
The Fellowships and Scholarships category features funding opportunities available to demographics historically underrepresented and undeserved in STEM fields like NASA’s Minority University Research and Education Project or GSA’s Expanding Representation in Geosciences Scholarship. We hope to lessen and eventually close racial/ethnic/gender/disability/sexuality gaps in critical STEM career paths by sharing these resources.
University-Specific
The compiled University-specific resources, like the Society of Women Engineers or the SciMatch Program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, features existing organizations associated with universities. These resources connect folks with groups that are already established and have been thinking about AJEDI issues for years. In addition, this can assist prospective students and faculty in making more informed decisions when choosing a university to work at.
Additional Resources
The Additional Resources category features anything that doesn’t neatly fit the above categories. These can include but are not limited to DEI literature, examples of lab DEI statements, and inclusive fieldwork resources. Some examples include the DEI Glossary from Love has No Labels and the Guide for Land Acknowledgements from Indiana University’s First Nations Educational & Cultural Center. If you know of a resource or focused content the AJEDI database should include, please submit it through this form. You’ll need to provide the resource name, the resource type (one of the categories explained above), the identities served, and a reference link. In addition, you can optionally provide the resource location and any additional comments you wish.
