AGU’s Hydrology Section Student Subcommittee (H3S) is now accepting applications (link) for the 2021-2023 term as well as for the vice-chair (i.e. chair-elect) position.
H3S is an AGU Hydrology Section subcommittee composed of students and early career hydrologists. Currently, there are three main subcommittees within the H3S committee: outreach, fall meeting, and professional development. Over the past two years, H3S has taken the lead on multiple new initiatives. After two successful H3S-CUAHSI seminar series in 2019, the H3S development committee continued this collaboration into 2020 with this year’s seminar series titled “Navigating Academic Waters: Essential Skills to Thrive as a Student and Early Career Scientist”. The series kicked off in March with a seminar on writing manuscript reviews and review responses. H3S has since hosted six cyber-seminars, routinely attracting over 200 attendees. Missed them? Have no fear: these seminars are recorded and posted on CUAHSI’s YouTube page for further viewing.
This spring, the H3S outreach team launched their long-anticipated blog! Since May, H3S has published over 25 posts that highlight early career research, guide students through fellowship applications, and discuss online teaching resources. More recently, a subcommittee of H3S developed and wrote a white paper outlining short- and long-term goals to enhance justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the hydrologic sciences and larger earth sciences community. The white paper was published on the blog and on the Hydrology Section website in October, 2020. The H3S fall meeting team hosts multiple social events, professional development town halls and technical sessions at AGU’s Fall Meeting with a particular focus on the job application process. Applications are open to all students and early career hydrological scientists including graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral scientists, and early career researchers within five years of graduation. We encourage students and early career scientists from all diverse backgrounds, values, and experiences to apply. All applications are due by December 31, 2020.
