Indus River

Many anthropogenic disturbances threaten water quality and quantity across the Indus River, including increases in dams, mining, agriculture, and glacial melt due to climate change.

Niwot Ridge LTER

Climate data has been continuously collected at this site for well over 40 years and has been used to validate changes in smowmelt-driven ecosystems, such as altered volumes of snow and nitrogen deposition.

Tropical glaciers in the Andes are particularly vulnerable to climate change due to their year-round melt, and have been melting at alarming rates as the globe warms. Melt from this glacier supplies a steady water source to indigenous Kichwa communities living downstream.
